CHEROKEE was designed in 1972 by Rod Macalpine-Downie as a spacious 35 footer which one could live aboard with all the household comforts. With three or four private double staterooms CHEROKEE is the ultimate in spaciousness contained within 35 feet overall, however her sailing ability on all points is still in the true SAIL CRAFT tradition - fast and easily manoeuvrable.

CHEROKEE has been sailed as far afield as Africa and the United States East and West Coast with just husband, wife and children aboard. The CHEROKEE with the aid of self-steering gear can be easily sailed single-handed.

On deck the CHEROKEE offers a large amount of working and leisure area. Best quality equipment is supplied throughout including silver anodised mast and boom with roller reefing, stainless steel rigging and bottlescrews, pulpit and stanchions and deck fittings. All sheets and control lines are in terylene. The exterior woodwork is in oiled teak. All halyard, sheet winches and mainsheet roller traveller are by Lewmar. All the necessary sheet blocks, ground blocks, ground tackle and anchor winch are supplied as standard equipment. The IROQUOIS and the APACHE are fitted with tipping boards whilst the CHEROKEE is fitted with fixed keels which enable one to sail efficiently to windward and to take the ground on an even keel fore and aft. Sails, ground tackle spare warps and all other deck gear can be kept in the spacious self-draining sail lockers and large cockpit locker. Wheel steering and a folding helmsmans seat coupled with an optional folding cockpit canopy compliments the overall quality and feel of CHEROKEE.

SAIL CRAFT many years ago appreciated the advantages of the hydraulic drive system and developed the CHEROKEE auxiliary power using a single diesel engine with twin independ-ant hydraulically controlled propellor units offering the ultimate in manoeuvrability with the low maintenance and economics of a single engine installation. Easy engine access is another feature of this system.

The CHEROKEE interior is finished in teak. All soft furnishings are in fabric with a shag pile carpet throughout with the exception of the two shower and w.c. compartments. The interior appointments include three or four private double staterooms, two showers, full size sink, drainer, cooker, ice box and a saloon table that seats eight comfortably.

Visibility from the CHEROKEE saloon and cabins is superb and ventilation via deck hatches is more than adequate.
