My apologies to those hoping for a much fatter communication, but I have had only one small piece of correspondence since the last news sheet. Im afraid that even this is of a very sad nature. Brian Turner wrote to say: Peter Cotgrove passed away suddenly after having a hip operation. He will be missed, not only for his involvement with the RYA and his racing, but to me as the other mk1 Iroquois that I raced against in the Thames estuary.
Brain also included some details about his boat including a picture showing his very good looking rig that sounds as though it works very well too. More in the next newsletter.
Check Dairy dates for details of the Southampton boat show dinner.
Im sorry to say that the next news letter will be my last. My company have offered me a job in San Francisco and Jane and I feel this is an opportunity not to be missed, especially with the children at the ages they are. Dad and I have decided that the best thing to do is to sell Jan. It was always the case that she was only viable with the two of us owning her, both from a maintenance and use point of view. It is one of my pet hates to see perfectly good boats sitting on their moorings week after week and I have no wish to be a hypocrite!!
I have enjoyed editing the newsletter immensely and thank those of you that have offered kind words of support over my time as editor.
It does Im afraid leave things in a rather precarious situation. The newsletter is the main artery of the Association and for it to continue to flourish as it has done over the years we need to find a replacement as soon as possible. Ideally this person would have a PC with Internet access, as more and more of our members both find out about us via Jeffs web page and receive their newsletter this way.
Please contact me as soon as possible if you would like to have a go. If several people offered I see no reason why we shouldnt have more than one editor!!
Of course we still need a Chairperson, but for the time being I think its more important to fill the Editors position.
